Did you know that more than 797,000 people in Cook County alone are unsure of when they will receive their next meal? This number is quite an eye opener to the huge problem of hunger in the Chicagoland area. The Greater Chicago Food Depository works hard every day to fight hunger in Chicago. They provide 81% of the food to local food pantries and 65% of the food to local homeless shelters and 59% of the food to local soup kitchens. All in all - that is a LOT of food to provide! Last year alone, the Greater Chicago Food Depository distributed 66 million pounds of shelf-stable food, fresh produce, dairy and meat products.
In order to provide this massive amount of food, GCFD needs food donations. While they work with 350 national and local food companies, they are also dependent on food drives hosted by local businesses and community organizations. Garvey's Office Products has partnered with GCFD and has become a Food Drive Transportation Partner. What this means is we can accept food donations at our location at 7500 N. Caldwell in Niles, IL or we will use our trucks to pick up your companies food donations. We then transport these food donations to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Hunger is a year round issue. In order to raise awareness of this, we are hosting a special contest in July for all customers who would like to host their own food drive at their office. If you collect non-perishable food in the month of July, call Garvey's at 800-621-1503 or email us at sales@getgarveys.com and we will send a truck to pick up your donation. We will also enter your company into a drawing for a $300 pizza party to be delivered in before the end of August 2014.
