Keeping Office Workers Safe During the Coronavirus

With Illinois reporting 93 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus, let’s look at what the virus is, how it spreads and how you can keep your office safe.

What is the Coronavirus exactly?

Coronavirus has been related as a flu-like virus. If exposed to the virus, patients exhibit fever, cough and often shortness of breath. These symptoms can form 2-14 days after exposure.

How does the Coronavirus spread?

As of right now, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) believes that the virus is spread person-to-person. Besides contact with someone who is sick, a person can potentially contract the virus when a sick person coughs or sneezes without covering their mouth.

How can you prevent the Coronavirus?

According to the CDC, the #1 one prevention method of the coronavirus is by washing your hands with soap and water. It is recommended to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds to ensure that any contagions are killed. Other useful prevention methods include knowing the signs and symptoms, staying home when you are sick and limiting movement in your community or contact with visitors.

Does this mean I should cancel travel plans?

Right now, the CDC recommends avoiding widespread affected geographical areas. These areas include China, Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea. High risk areas are changing daily, so be sure to check out the CDC website for the latest information.
