How many times did your parents tell you to “Wash your hands” when growing up? While we’ve always known that washing our hands is good for our health, these past years has taught us just how important it is when it comes to spreading germs and keeping other people healthy. So in honor of the upcoming #GlobalHandwashingDay, here are 5 spots in the office that are hotspots for germs and what you can do to stop the spread of germs.
The Timeclock
Everyone punches in and out each day. After using the timeclock, be sure to wash your hands. If a sink isn’t available, have your employer install a hand sanitizer unit next to it.
Restrooms & Bathroom
We all know to wash our hands after using the lavatory, but many of us follow up washing our hands with a hand dryer. Hand dryers are notorious for harboring germs. When you use them, they actually blow germs out into the open air! When possible, dry with paper towels.
Doors & Entry Points
If your office has a lot of doors, consider carrying around a personal sanitizer to use after touching the knobs. Better yet, assign doorknobs to your daily cleaning routine.
Desk Electronics
These days, we are all connected to our phones and computers. Be sure to wipe down keyboards, cell phones and desktop mice at the end of each day.
The Printer
Similar to the timeclock, the office printer gets A LOT of foot traffic. A good approach is to place a sign near the printer reminding people to wash their hands after using it.
